From Books to Bowls: A Librarian's Love Affair with Clay

By day, Donna Carter Morris guides middle school students through the world of books. By night and on weekends, she's elbow-deep in clay, creating functional stoneware that brings beauty into everyday life.

After 40 years working with fiber arts, Donna discovered pottery in 2022—and it became an instant obsession. What started as curiosity has transformed into a passionate practice, with Donna spending her free time in the studio "playing in the mud" and exploring everything this versatile medium has to offer.

True to her librarian roots, Donna approaches pottery as a consummate learner. She has expanded her skills through classes, workshops, and plenty of trial and error. Each piece she creates on the wheel reflects her creative mindset in that moment, making every bowl, mug, or plate truly one-of-a-kind.

Beautiful, Functional, Accessible

Donna's no-nonsense philosophy is simple: functional pieces should be beautiful, and everyone should have access to art in their lives. Her work proves that everyday objects can be both practical and special - pottery you'll reach for again and again because it brings joy to your daily routine. Using the pottery wheel and other ceramic hand tools, she makes stoneware that reflects her creativity.

Donna's ceramics are featured in Verona, VA, and in specialty shows at in the Waynesboro, Virginia area. We are very excited to have her in Warsaw, Virginia for the Art Festival on June 13, 10-4 and June 14,2026 11-4 at picturesque Belle Ville Farm located at 188 Community Park Dr, Warsaw!
